Ecohydrological controls on apparent rates of peat carbon accumulation in a boreal bog record from the Hudson Bay Lowlands, northern Ontario, Canada

چکیده
Abstract A multiproxy Holocene record from a bog in the Hudson Bay Lowlands, northern Ontario, Canada, was used to evaluate how ecohydrology relates carbon accumulation. The study site is located at somewhat higher elevation and on coarser grained deposits than surrounding peatlands. This promotes better drainage thus slower rate of accumulation relative sites with similar initiation age. peat vertical accretion initially low as transitioned marsh rich fen. These lower rates took place during warmer temperatures thermal maximum, confirming importance hydrological controls limiting local scale. Testate amoebae, pollen, plant macrofossils indicate transition poor fen then late Holocene, reconstructed water table depth increased. bacterial membrane lipid biomarker indices infer paleotemperature show summer temperature bias appear sensitive changes type. pH proxy indicates subsequent transition, which are supported by macrofossil, testate amoeba records.

متن کاملControls on the fate and transport of methylmercury in a boreal headwater catchment, northwestern Ontario, Canada
The fate and transport of methylmercury (MeHg) were studied in a small boreal catchment. Hydrological processes largely govern the magnitude of the flux of MeHg. Seasonal and inter-annual variability in hydrology produce variable source strengths of MeHg throughout the catchment. The mass flux of MeHg within, and from the catchment is dependent on the mass flux of water and the relative placeme...

A Holocene lake sediment record spanning the past 7300 years from Wishart Lake in the Turkey Lakes Watershed in the Hemi-Boreal of central Ontario, Canada, was used to evaluate the potential drivers of long-term change in diatom assemblages at this site. An analysis of diatom assemblages found that benthic and epiphytic taxa dominated the mid-Holocene (7300-4000 cal yr BP), indicating shallow, ...
